Raising dining to new culinary heights, Garden Spot Village wanted to create an experience for its residents. Based on market analysis and resident interviews, they determined that people (particularly residents used to dining out much of their lives), expect inspired cuisine, creative presentation, and an atmosphere that is enjoyable and comfortable. Originally bland and run of the mill, the dining/café area was reminiscent of most similar senior care facilities.
Part of a larger five-phase renovation project, the café renovation was the most extensive. This area was completely demolished from top to bottom including the HVAC system, essentially a complete reinvention of the space. The floor was scraped to the bare concrete and all walls, kitchen equipment and insulation were removed. The space was completely reconfigured to include new kitchen equipment, including a brick oven for pizzas, serving lines, and even a kiosk ordering system standard to what is found in a Sheetz or Wawa for on-the-go convenience. Designed to include a variety of interesting locally inspired architectural features, including the custom hand-made brick and canning jar walls, canning jar chandelier and the various curved woodwork elements throughout the entire space. In the most actively used building on campus, Warfel formulated a complex phasing plan which allowed the entire facility, serving over 500+ residents in the community, to remain in full operation during all phases of construction.
